The manufacturers will often try new flashlight building techniques to come out with an even brighter LED flashlight than the next guy.
LED flashlights are unique in the way they do not require actual light bulbs to create the outgoing light. Instead, the light is produced by the diodes. Light emitting diodes use up less energy than standard light bulbs do. They also can produce very intense bright light. Light bulbs can also produce very bright light, but they take a lot more energy to do so, and therefore the battery life in standard flashlights is much shorter than the cell life inside of LED flashlights.

An example of this would be one flashlight that produces an orange/yellow circle of light in one area. Another flashlight may produce a wider spectrum of whiter light. Which would you prefer?
